The PEACE PLUS programme will contribute to a more prosperous and stable society in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland and will leave a lasting legacy. The programme will achieve this by funding activities that promote peace and reconciliation and contribute to the cross-border economic and territorial development of the programme area. It will build upon previous PEACE and INTERREG Programmes. Provision has been made for an indicative budget of approximately €1bn, including proposals from the EU budget, the Government of Ireland, the Northern Ireland Executive and the UK Government.

The PEACE Plus Programme will run from 2021-2027 and represents an excellent opportunity for Local Authorities and key stakeholders within the East Border Region to access funding for cross border projects which will make a positive contribution to the economic, social and environmental development of the Region.

East Border Region are involved in a number of project submission to the PEACE PLUS Programme and hope to be announcing their success in the coming weeks. One project that we are delighted to announce our recent success in is the exciting new PEACE PLUS funded Change Makers Project.

The Change Makers fund will distribute €40 million over the next 3 years to support people to people projects on a cross community and/or cross-border basis, delivering awards of up to €100,000 directly into communities.

Co-operation Ireland, in partnership with Rural Action and East Border Region, have been contracted to help promote the programme and support groups to apply.

The Change Makers Funds will focus on activities which enhance community cohesion and bring communities and groups together on a cross community (Investment Area 1.2) or Cross Border (Investment Area 6.2) basis, with the aim of embedding and enhancing existing relationships, and establishing new relationships and networks.

The funds are available to community and voluntary groups and other organisations– and are flexible in the activity that they deliver, but all projects must have a strong focus on improving cross community and cross-border relationships.

The application and implementation process for projects will be delivered in a streamlined manner reflecting the lower amounts of grants when compared to other investment areas of the programme.

Stakeholder Engagement Sessions

In advance of the formal opening of the Change Makers Small Grants Programme, a series of information events are currently taking place for regional bodies, umbrella groups, statutory agencies, elected representatives and other stakeholders.

If you represent one of the groups above, you are invited to attend one of these events so that you might help raise awareness of the Fund among the organisations you work with.

A separate series of events will be announced in January for community voluntary organisations wishing to apply for funding.
